It’s not too late for “femme-aligned” students to apply to take "dark night" photographs in the Mojave Desert.

The Mojave Desert Land Trust’s next Women In Science Discovering Our Mojave (WISDOM) project is looking for interns to help document some of the country's darkest skies.

This paid internship in Mojave Trails National Monument is open to female students of all backgrounds, especially those underrepresented in conservation, Mojave Desert Land Trust officials stated.

Interns will spend October 2025 through April 2026 surveying the desert’s night skies, committing about 15 hours a month between one office day and one overnight in the field.

Activities will include night sky photography, recording light measurements, taking field notes, analyzing data, long drives through the vast and remote Mojave Desert, and camping in remote areas.

Interns will also publish a creative project to share their findings and experiences during the project.

Participants are provided with field transportation, gear and a stipend. Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions, organizers stated.
