Just heard of this Alpha Centauri conversion mod for Civ IV. Anyone tried it? Is it any good?

I've merely heard about it.  I've never tried it, or any Civ IV mod for that matter.  I snapped my Civ IV DVD in half.  Their combat system was interminable and they introduced too many religious and corporate building gewgaws.  Some modder somewhere could have remedied that sort of thing I suppose, but I definitely don't have any curiosity about whether they did so.  I tried the demo of Civ V, decided it was too much more of the same, and washed my hands of Firaxis.  They are a franchise and will never solve the core problems of the 4X genre.

Only thing I do know is, no raise / lower land style terraforming.

Civ IV seems to have AI you can get at in Python.  Civ V went to Lua.  Civ VI was designed for many kinds of modding, but apparently they deliberately made it very difficult to get at the AI stuff.  Read an article about that recently, gave me the impression it's pretty hands off.

OK guys; thanks for the response. No one's come on and said "great mod!" so I guess I'll give it a miss.

It's just hard for me to get excited about trying it, when I actually work on modding the original, and perfecting it to the extent I can at the *.txt level.
