Title: Datalinks Website
Post by: thatsmydoing on June 12, 2016, 08:18:44 am
Hi, I haven't played in a long while, and I sometimes miss the game's world. For me, it's the quotes that really make you feel the situation. While there's the wiki, it really feels different from opening the game and browsing the datalinks.

So I decided to make a website for it with the same look and feel as the in-game datalinks at http://datalinks.pleasantprogrammer.com/ (http://datalinks.pleasantprogrammer.com/)

Some assets are missing (mostly images) but those are a bit too difficult for me to add in at the moment. There's also some new features I want to add later on, but I'm pretty happy with it now and wanted to share.

What do you guys think?

That is gorgeous.

Have you seen the old Firaxis SMACX pages we host?  http://alphacentauri2.info/official/Sid%20Meier's%20Alpha%20Centauri.htm (http://alphacentauri2.info/official/Sid%20Meier's%20Alpha%20Centauri.htm)  Have a look at the tech mini-pages in the Technology section, especially the datalinks section missing & in need of reconstruction, and I may have a related project for you if you're interested...

-Also, you'll find a lot of the illos you're missing there if you poke around...

Yeah, I saw the old site after I posted. Sadly, a lot of stuff is missing from there, and sometimes the page shows up as gibberish.

What kind of project did you have in mind?

Well, the advanced and basic concepts pages need rebuilding building from scratch...

And check this out:

Would you be interested in having us host your Datalinks site?  -Or at least mirror it?  It would make a mighty fine addition to that lineup of resources we host...

Sure, mirroring is fine. Do I just send you a zip of the entire thing?

Did you mean for me to fix up the old site? Can you send me a zip of all the files you already have?

Yeah; let's do that - I'm impressed with your skills and attention to detail in constructing the datalinks pages, and thought all those related datalinks categories and the associated mini-pages would be up your alley. -I don't recall ever looking at the missing sections when the old site was up, so just something in the style of what I was able to do with the other tech subpages that looks like they belong together would be fine, unless you can improve and make them actually mini like the originals, which I was unable to figure out.

I'll PM you with an email addy later today when I get caught up...
