This site needs a view first unread button inside of a thread. Going to drive me crazy :D

well, i'm not aware of any such button in vBulletin either.
i think email notifications can link you to the last unread post in vB but it's not always working (at leats not at WPC).
email notifications here are linking to the last post in thread, so you have a point..

I use it all the time. There is also the same feature on CFC and 'Poly.

before looking for modifications let's see if what we have can be of any help.
we have a 'Show new replies to your posts (http://alphacentauri2.info/unreadreplies/)' link besides your avatar at the top of the forum
i know it's not the same thing..

Exactly, even if I am not posting in a thread, I sometimes follow it. If a thread gets to the point where there are multiple pages and multiple posts per day the view first unread is an absolute time saver. I have been using the go to last post button from the forum. Then I scroll backwards to find the first one you haven't read that way. It get's the job done, just not quite the same though.

looks like there no such button in SMF.  i'll ask around.
also, i've found an old plug-in which adds a 'new' icon to the new posts in thread view.
should i try installing that. i need to do it manually and that means i have to back-up the site before trying.

I'd alway assumed the 'new' button was just an icon, but I see it IS a button, and does just what we need from the forum view - could it be moved inside threads at the top of the page?

No.  I'm only just beginning to get a handle on normal user functions - years of vB experience, and little of forums beyond that.

Does exactly what I was looking for, thanks. Like BU I have many years of experience with VB, this forum setup will take some getting used to.

I am not sure what you are talking about being big and sloppy. I have actually come to find this new button even better than the view first unread button.
